HOW I LIVE UNITED

HI, MY NAME IS ALEX WALKER
I am proud to be the Chair of the 2009 Heritage United Way Campaign. I agreed to serve as this year's Chair knowing full well that I have some very big shoes to fill. Dr. Steven Paris of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Manchester did a fantastic job as the 2008 Campaign Chair. I was proud to be part of his 2008 Campaign Cabinet. Steve's leadership and dedication inspired me to serve as the 2009 Campaign Chair.

I also accepted this role knowing that we are experiencing the worst economy in decades. Although we certainly will be faced with plenty of challenges in 2009, I am very confident that all of you -- our thousands of donors and volunteers -- will step up and help us meet those challenges. The people and programs that are the recipients of your donations and hard work need us more than ever.

I hope by being this year's Heritage United Way Campaign Chair and working with this year's Campaign Cabinet, I can LIVE UNITED by helping us navigate through these challenging times and raise the necessary resources to help children, families and individuals in our communities lead promising, self-sufficient lives. I can't do it alone though.

You can LIVE UNITED by giving to United Way. Your generosity will help reach out to thousands of deserving families and individuals through vital programming in the areas of health and wellness, education and lifelong learning, and housing and economic self-sufficiency. Did you know that in 2008: More than 500 local businesses and organizations supported Heritage United Way. More than 475 individuals contributed at the leadership level. More than 75 volunteers spent more than 4,000 hours reviewing the proposals submitted to Heritage United Way as part of their innovative Community Impact initiative. More than 650 volunteers from 53 companies participated in the 2008 Day of Caring. And, Heritage United Way raised over $3.3 million dollars.

United Way is all about volunteers and collaboration. People in New Hampshire care and they better our communities through their time, talent and generosity. I am proud to be part of this movement. Please join me. Together we will provide lasting change that will make a positive difference in the lives of others for years to come.
