Manchester Transit Authority Gets the Word Out About 2-1-1 NH
Friday, February 6, 2009

The Manchester Transit Authority has partnered with the United Way, to inform city residents about 2-1-1 NH, by offering the program ad space on six of their buses.
Callers who dial 2-1-1 are connected, at no charge, to an information and referral specialist who can provide them with the health and human services information they need to get help.  Calls to 2-1-1 NH are confidential and multilingual assistance is available.
During these challenging economic times, 2-1-1 NH offers New Hampshire residents information on essential services including food, shelter, heating assistance and health care needs from a variety of local and state government services and non-profit agencies.
“Many people do not know where to turn when they are in need of help, “ said Patrick Tufts, President & CEO of Heritage United Way.  “Given the uncertainty with the economy, more individuals are in need of assistance and many have never been in this position before.  2-1-1 allows us to easily and efficiently connect callers to the agencies and organizations that can help them.  We are grateful to the MTA for helping us to get this message out.”
The ads were installed on the city buses at the end of January and the MTA expects the ads to remain for at least four to six months.
2-1-1 NH is an initiative of the 10 United Ways in New Hampshire in partnership with Public Service Company of New Hampshire.  The service can also be found online at www.211nh.org.
