United Ways to Merge
Monday, February 1, 2010
We are very pleased to announce that the Volunteer Boards of Directors of the Merrimack
County, North Country, and Heritage United Ways have each unanimously approved signing a
letter of intent to merge our individual United Way organizations into a single United
Way entity. A committee of Board members from each organization is now working through a
due diligence process.
We recognize that it is important that you be aware of this process. Our three United
Ways share a commitment to positively impact the lives of those in each of our local
communities, and this merger will allow us to have an even greater influence. This
merger will allow us to deliver a consistent "United Way experience" across a larger
segment of our state, which will lead to many positive outcomes, such as more effective
fundraising, reduced operating expenses, and improved program offerings.
The new, unified organization combines the many strengths of the Merrimack County, North
Country, and Heritage United Ways. We will communicate with you frequently as we work
through the organizational and operational details of the merger. We want you to know that
the letter of intent ensures local governance over program investments and that funds
raised locally remain local. Volunteer leadership from each United Way is currently
working diligently on all details of the merger.
The new organization will serve the following New Hampshire communities: Allenstown,
Andover, Atkinson, Auburn, Bath, Benton, Bethlehem, Bedford, Boscawen, Bow, Bradford,
Candia, Canterbury, Chester, Chichester, Concord, Contoocook, Dalton, Danbury, Danville,
Dunbarton, Derry, Easton, Ellsworth, Epsom, Franconia, Franklin, Goffstown, Hampstead,
Haverhill, Henniker, Hill, Hooksett, Hopkinton, Landaff, Lincoln, Littleton, Lisbon,
Londonderry, Loudon, Lyman, Manchester, Monroe, New Boston, New London, Newbury,
Northfield, Pelham, Pembroke, Piermont, Pike, Pittsfield, Plaistow, Salem, Sandown,
Salisbury, Sugar Hill, Sutton, Warren, Warner, Weare, Webster, Whitefield, Wilmot,
Windham, Woodstock and Woodsville.
We have embarked on a challenging yet rewarding endeavor and are working toward
completing the operational and organizational aspects of the merger with shared goals:
to provide more program funding, to deliver that funding more efficiently, and to
become even more of a positive voice in the state.
